How long have you been in business?
Titled as the Slovak Institute it has been housed in St.Andrew Svorad, Benedictine Abbey in Cleveland Ohio since
1952. Prior to this the Abbey has had a Slovak Library since 1936.
What is your primary product or service?
SIL is primarily a research library, with no lending
system available.
How did you first become interested in your line of business? (if owner) - What is your background? (If owner or store manager)
SIL has had only four volunteer Directors since its beginning continuing to the present time of 2011. All born in Slovakia and able read and write in the Slovak language,
and having strong ties with Slovakia.
How do you differentiate yourself from other businesses in your category and area?
Unique in America, and in many catagories the best.
How many locations do you have and do you have plans to expand?
With a volunteer staff and having to raise our own funds
at carry on projects having other locations and expanding is not in our plans.

On the eastside in the city of Cleveland, five minutes
west of Shaker Square.
What type of payments do you accept?
By check and cash only. Payable to the Slovak Institute.
Which areas do you service?
Slovak communities and scholars around the world, plus a
few university libraries. Since 2002 much of our information exchange has been done through the Internet,
and by telephone.
Who owns your company or runs daily operations?
We are give space in the Benedictine Abbey, next to Benedictine High School, and staffed current by two fulltime lay person volunteers.
What are your hours of operation?
New daily schedule starting May of 2011 is Tuesdays through Thursdays, 10am to 3pm. Prior to this we were open five weekdays.
