How did you first become interested in your line of business? (if owner) - What is your background? (If owner or store manager)
The Lutheran Home for the Aged was founded in Westlake, Ohio on October 23, 1932.
A small group of Lutherans, “with a little vision and a little more faith” recognized the need to provide old-age support for elderly poor who had no family to care for them. After much prayer, many meetings, the crash of the Stock Market, and the onset of the Great Depression, Lutheran Home for the Aged was incorporated by the State of Ohio on October 23, 1932.
How do you differentiate yourself from other businesses in your category and area?
LHCR is the only faith-based senior life community in Westlake, serving people of all faiths (or none at all.) Our Spiritual Life department offers the services of both a full-time Lutheran Chaplain and a part-time Catholic Chaplain. For our Catholic residents, Mass is said on the 1st & 3rd Sundays with a lay leaders from St. Ladislaus leading worship on the 2nd & 4th Sundays. An ecumenical service with Lutheran liturgy is held each Sunday at 1:30 p.m. Rosary is said on all neighborhoods each Tuesday. On Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. ecumenical worship with Lutheran Liturgy is held.
LHCR has received many awards from LeadingAge Ohio, including Excellence in Life Enrichment, Excellence in Individual Volunteering; Excellence in Group Volunteering; and Excellence in Communication.
For four consecutive years, our Assisted Living has received Perfect Surveys from the State of Ohio 2012-2015
Our campus Main Street amenities include: the Chapel, the Field House Café, a Library including Wi-Fi access, a full-service hair salon for men & women, an 1100 gallon fish aquarium, finch aviaries, waterfall & duck pond, and garden train set.
How many locations do you have and do you have plans to expand?
LHCR is a stand-alone, independent not-for-profit organization. In 2015 we added an Occupational Health Clinic partnered with MercyHealth.
Plans are underway to add 80 Independent affordable apartments on our campus in the next 2 years.

We accept Medicare, Medicaid, Private Pay and several private insurances.

The majority of our residents come to us within a 20-mile radius of Westlake, Ohio.

LHCR is operated by a Board of Directors comprised of local Lutheran and Catholic members.
What are your hours of operation?
Business Office hours are Monday-Friday from 8 am to 5:30 pm.
Weekend Managers are on duty Saturday and Sunday from 9 am to 3 pm.
Family and friends are welcome to visit residents 24/7 if they have been given a security code.
